Civil Rights

Our civil rights are under threat on many fronts, although some Americans face especially severe challenges to their civil liberties.

Islamophobia is on the rise in the U.S. The current administration threatens to ban all Muslims from entering the U.S. while Islamic religion and culture are increasingly stigmatized. False narratives that associate all Muslims with terrorist groups like ISIS encourage fear and marginalization. There is increased violence toward Muslim communities. Find an organization working to defend the rights of our Muslim neighbors and friends.

Instituţionalized racism has had devastating effects on people of color, limiting education and financial opportunities, and criminalizing millions of black, brown and latinx youth. Racialized injustice is again on the rise. By using coded rhetoric and characterizing predominantly black and brown neighborhoods as “war zones,” recent political discourse has perpetuated the criminalization of poverty in non-white communities. Find an organization that is fighting for racial justice. Work for equal opportunity for all Americans.
